The challenge of providing access to electricity
from renewable sources,
in light of the growing usage of electric vehicles.

The Challenge

Many countries, including Israel, have declared their intention to outlaw the sale of polluting vehicles that are powered by an internal combustion engine. At the same time, it is known that the electricity network is limited in its ability to supply the required energy to electric vehicles. In order to meet the challenge, innovative-entrepreneurial thinking is required, in order to match infrastructures, update regulations, build user interfaces and educate the market. One of the tools for solving this complicated problem is transitioning to a distributed energy economy, which encourages the consolidation of energy communities close to the place of consumption, which do not emit pollutants, and encourages social cohesion.

In accordance with the developmental goals set by the UN (SDGs) (numbers 7 and 11), which deal with guaranteeing achievable, reliable and sustainable access to renewable energy, the laboratory participants are requested to develop community solutions for the use of renewable energy.

The Laboratory

The Innovation Laboratory is a unique and prestigious framework whose goal is to develop ground-breaking initiatives. The lab provides the participants with training in the areas of ideas, modelling and storylining, and during the program the participants will meet with experts and will be provided with professional support during the different stages of development. At the end of the process, the participants will make a presentation to a team of experts, and can win financial support.

Registration and Participation

Participation in the lab is open to students and academics from the Hebrew University, the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, and from the Azrieli College of Engineering, from any discipline, who are interested in addressing this complicated issue, obtaining practical knowledge, receiving practical entrepreneurial tools, developing innovative solutions in a multi-disciplinary group and in creating connections with supportive elements from the academy and industry.

Training, Support, and Guidance

Participants in the lab will take part in professional workshops in the areas of design thinking and development, and, in order to learn more about the challenge, will receive relevant background from professionals. Similarly, the participants will be supported by the JLM Impact team and senior academic, government, and industry figures.
